Outback 2 LSA Airplane - why it is the best choice.
There are now over 80 SLSA aircraft on the market to choose from. But the choice can be made simple. There is no factor more important than safety in an SLSA aircraft which is intended for first time and low time pilots. A large number of the new SLSA's are composite construction, with glass bubble canopies. Composites are strong like an egg shell; they are great until they are cracked. Then they simply disintegrate. Glass bubble canopies don't offer any protection in a crash; they don't even protect you from the sun. Some are high-wing aircraft, which are a little more susceptible to wind changes on take-off and landing than low-wing aircraft. Take-offs and landings are the most vulnerable time in most flying. Some have all-metal skins, but it is not the skin that protects you. The Outback 2 with its steel roll cage for passengers sets it apart. It even has steel bars triangulating right across the front wind screen. These bars deter the engine from coming into the cockpit in the event of a crash by transferring the impact to the top of the steel roll cage and back into the rest of the frame. The steel bars and cage will bend and absorb enormous impact.

This type of safety-cage airframe has been used in Lightwing Aircraft models in Australia for over twenty years. The Lightwing has the best safety record of any aircraft down under, where pilots fly to herd cattle and check fences and land in the outback on dirt strips and rough terrain. In twenty years there have been twelve crashes in this airframe, but only one single fatality. Everyone else walked away. If your first priority is safety, then you will choose an Outback 2 over any other SLSA airplane. We offer Personal Wings which are the safest on the market.

Other important features.
There is legroom and headroom for bigger pilots, with wide-range adjustments in seat position, pedal positions and even control stick positions. The side stick controls mean you don't have to climb over a center stick to get into your seat. The controls can be controlled with finger pressure, instead of arm muscles. The cabin width is well above average. The luggage room is unsurpassed in an LSA. The seats are comfortable. And the handling is very docile; the wide wings and wing tip shape make this aircraft difficult to stall and easy to recover. This is an easy plane to fly, yet it has utility because it can actually carry things other than another person. We offer Personal Wings which deliver comfort and utility together that is unsurpassed.

A safer cockpit - the world's best avionics
This aircraft can be upgraded with Garmin 496 glass cockpit avionics along with radio and transponder. The Garmin 496 further adds to flying safety because it combines satellite datalink weather with a detailed color map and high resolution colored terrain alerting updated as you fly. You can avoid bad weather, no matter where it starts appearing. It shows lightning strikes and where they are. And you will avoid all obstacles because the terrain alerts show you in advance where towers and other high obstacles are, as well as hills and mountains - related specifically to the altitude you are currently flying. You will also receive TIS traffic alerts that identify surrounding air traffic; so you can avoid mid-air collisions from aircraft you can't spot with your naked eye.

Also included in the upgrade is Garmin's SafeTaxi™ data which provides detailed taxiway diagrams and position information for over 650 U.S. airports. Preloaded on the unit, this information helps you navigate unfamiliar airports with confidence and shows your aircraft’s exact position on the field. It includes the entire AOPA Airport Directory which will show you the nearest airport if you are having trouble and need to land. It will enable you to look up taxi services, plan an overnight, and choose fuel stops. It offers detailed information for over 5,300 U.S. airports along with the names and phone numbers of thousands of FBOs, plus ground transportation, lodging, restaurants, local attractions and more. And when you land the Garmin 496 will click out of the panel and become a road GPS with turn by turn instructions to get you where ever you need to go.

You pay a little more for this inflight power. But the additional safety is well worth it. And of course you get radio, transponder, engine managment, and back-up dial instruments should anything fail with the primary flight display.

In every way, we want to make the Outback 2 the safest airplane you can buy.
